Caring for cuts and grazes

Life's a big adventure for children and little accidents are a part of growing up strong and healthy. When treating children's wounds, the basic common-sense rules apply. So keep calm and always wash your hands before you make a start. Our useful tips should come in handy too.

• Explain what you're doing - children need to know what's going on to feel reassured.
  

• A minor wound will soon stop bleeding. If it doesn't, apply a little pressure to the spot with a non stick wound pad. Try Elastoplast Antiseptic Dressing Lengths which will also reduce the risk of infection.
  

• If the bleeding still continues, keep the pressure on and apply more dressing.
  

• If anything is embedded under the skin, leave it alone, then visit your GP or local A&E.
  

• Always wipe away from the wound to avoid infection.
  

• Let the area dry and then use a children's adhesive plaster such as Elastoplast's Winnie thePooh © plasters or Elastoplast's Finding Nemo © Knee and Elbow plasters which are skin friendly and are esy to remove. 

• A cuddle and a kiss can work wonders too!
