Living with and reducing scars

Whether it’s a car accident, surgery or another sort of injury, many of life’s unfortunate events leave their marks as scars. While nearly everybody has one or more scars to remind them of such situations, some scars may be more critical than others. In addition to possible physical pain and discomfort, individuals may experience psychological impairment and reduced self-confidence, especially when scars are located on visible parts of the body, all reasons that lead to someone wanting to reduce a scar.

Elastoplast Scar Reducer XL Patches

Elastoplast Scar Reducer XL are a large transparent, self-adhesive patch made of polyurethane. Products made of this material have been used for years in professional wound care. The patches contain no active ingredients (pharmaceuticals) that may cause side effects.

They are a safe and efficient way to effectively reduce raised and coloured hypertrophic scars or keloid scars. The extra large size of these patches makes them suitable for cesarean scars. Learn more about scar treatment and prevention here.

Key benefits of the Scar Reducer XL Patches

  • Discreet transparent patch
  • Flexible and breathable material for high wearing comfort
  • Easy-to-use, can be cut to size
  • Water resistant
  • Very skin-friendly

How do the Scar Reducer XL Patches work?

The transparent polyurethane patch is designed to build a semi-occlusive barrier which improves hydration of the scar tissue. It also increases temperature in the scar tissue. This helps to activate the skin’s own regeneration process and supports the remodelling of the scar. The scars become flatter, lighter and softer.

Clinical studies

Clinical studies have shown positive results after 8 weeks of consecutive use of at least 12 hours a day. First results are noticeable after 3 to 4 weeks. Using the patch for longer than 8 weeks may further improve the appearance of the scar. Interested in knowing more?

Scarring is a natural part of the healing process after tissue is damaged. Following and injury, wounds go through distinct phases of wound healing. The wound healing process finally leads to the maturation phase, during which the scar tissue reorganises. It can take years, depending on the size and depth of the original wound.

  • 3. How do Scar Reducer XL Patches work?

    wow such a difference
I was slightly sceptical of the plaster but i have used it for a few weeks now and the difference is amazing. The main thing i have found is it is no longer raised. Its really smoothed out the appearance. The colour is slightly lighter and im pretty certain it will only get lighter with continued use. Definetly will continue to use this product.

    Very good product
Very good product, much better than I expected. Easy to apply and remove and don't leave sticky patches on the skin. I am not sure if it will reduce any scars but very good as a plaster.

    Excellent product
I've tried the silicone gel sheets that are reusable (wash and leave to dry and re-use) and the silicone gel and nothing beats these silicone gel sheets. The fact they are use and throw away is a big plus for me - who really has the time or patience to wash and leave to dry?? The instructions says they are to be used for 24 hours but I have found they are water (shower) proof and remain sticky for 2-3 days. On the outset it might seem expensive 21 sheets 21 days, but if you can cut to the size of your scar(s), they last much longer than 21 days. I've had surgery on my wrist and cut to 3 pieces to go over the scar. Alongside massaging my scars daily, these silicone gel sheets are really helping my scars go soft and turn white coloured after 8 weeks post surgery.
