How does Second Skin Protection work? What are the benefits of Second Skin Protection plasters?
Do the plasters contain any active ingredient(s)?
Why can the plaster be applied directly to the wound without a wound pad or compress?
Is it okay if the wound/healing capsule turns yellow?
The hydrocolloid particles absorb wound fluid, swell, and liquefy over the wound, resulting in a whitish-yellow bubble (‘healing capsule’) visible from the outside. It may appear yellow, greenish, or brownish depending on wound conditions. The colour and smell of the gel should under no circumstances be mistaken for pus.
If the hydrocolloid dressing is removed with the healing capsule present, the hydrocolloid may remain gel-like on the wound. This often has a yellowish appearance and indicates the mode of action and healing process — it is not pus or a sign of infection (signs of infection include redness, heat, or pain).
If in doubt, remove the plaster and seek medical advice.
